Phoenix Fan Fusion!
What do you get when you blend science fiction, fantasy, gaming, and anime all under one roof? You get a convention center filled with fans, enthusiasts, and artists. What if we then throw some scientists into that mix? Well, that's exactly what happens each year at Phoenix Fan Fusion in Phoenix Arizona and the result is quite interesting. As thousands of fans attend the three day ultimate geek-driven event, they are welcome to attend panels with scientists who discuss the parallels between science fiction and reality. At Phoenix Fan Fusion 2022, the STEAM team dispatched a few members within it's ranks to discuss topics ranging from sleep paralysis demons and advancements in neurotechnolgies, to the ecology of the Dune-universe planet Arrakis! The discussions during these panels were stimulating, rich, and covered topics related to ethics, novel technology development, and the basic science that underpins it all. Read more about the role that STEAM team scientists played at Phoenix Fan Fusion in this recent Sci on the Fly Blog Post (TBD)!

Anacostia Youth Environmental Summit
The STEAM Team and Climate Classes joined the Friends of Anacostia Park, the DC
Environmental Education Consortium, and the Washington DC Department of Energy &
Environment (DOEE) to teach the community about the science and impacts of climate change
during the Anacostia Environmental Youth Summit (AEYS) at the Anacostia Park Roller Skating
Pavilion. At the 2022 event, the STEAM Team engaged students in a hands-on experiment planting basil seeds to learn about the importance of plants in carbon sequestration.
